The diet during pregnancy is not always what women expect. Many future moms are worried about their weight, and therefore research a lot on the nutritional needs during the nine months ahead. TheĀ  truth is that every pregnancy in different if we consider things from a subjective point of view, and it is pretty difficult to set and follow strict diet rules. Thus, pregnant women can eat whatever the like as long as they stay moderate. This is the most general tip you can get!

However, I’m sure you want to go into the ‘savory’ details of a good diet during pregnancy. Here are some guidelines that will help you through efficiently.

Talk to your doctor about ways to reduce morning sickness. As long as you don’t feel too nauseous and your sense of smell doesn’t get over-sensitive, you should be able to eat as per usual. The only condition is to eat HEALTHY, NATURAL food as much as possible.

What I meant by ‘healthy’ and ‘natural’ is ‘very little processed’. Eat fruits and vegetables in two or three servings. They give you vitamins and minerals, and provide lots of nutrients.

Lean meat such as chicken and fish are great for any diet during pregnancy. Avoid oceanic fish because it is rich in mercury. Also have beef at least three times per week as it has the highest content of iron. This mineral is absolutely essential for the baby’s development, not to mention its importance in preventing anemia.

Eat smaller portions in more frequent meals, particularly during the first three months when you can get more easily nauseous.

Drink plain water, natural fresh juice and herbal tea. Avoid fizzy drinks as they contain too many chemicals, and stay away from coffee and black tea because they have a high content of caffeine.

A good diet during pregnancy should be supported by proper physical activity. Pregnancy is a special condition, but your body does not feel ill. There are lots of exercises especially designed for pregnant women. They keep you in a good shape and they prepare the muscles for delivery.

Women with a good physical condition, who do regular sports activities are likely to have a much easier labor.

Don’t think about your diet during pregnancy in a negative way. If you worry too much and you keep using the scales every day, you’ll get really pessimistic. This kind of attitude is detrimental for your psychological health and your relation with the baby!
